Photography (\fə-ˈtä-grə-fē\)[1]
n.
1. The art or process of producing images of objects on photosensitive surfaces.
2. The art, practice, or occupation of taking and printing photographs.
3. A body of photographs.
The word “photograph” was coined in 1839 by Sir John Herschel and is based on the Greek φῶς (phos) “light” and γραφή (graphê) “representation by means of lines” or “drawing”, together meaning “drawing with light”[2].
Yes, photography is an art.
I sure still don’t have the artistry to produce breathtaking photos, but I’m learning. With the help of a couple of books I bought, plus the tutorials I’m finding on the Internet, I’ll acquire it.
I love this hobby. I knew since I was little that I had some attraction to photography, but didn’t know how big it really was till a bit of a month ago.
I bought my first “big” camera: Nikon Coolpix P90, and started taking pictures like crazy… well, kind of (I know this is a point-and-shoot camera, and is not really a “big” one, especially to professionals or experienced amatures, but it is to me). Also, by reading my books and tutorials online, I understand more what the numbers on lenses mean as well as some of the jargon used by more advance/professional photographers.
To share some of my pictures, I created a Photo Blog, and I’ve posted quite a few already. Go ahead and check it out.
I’m so enthusiastic about this hobby of mine, that I’ve added a new item to my equipment: a tripod. A pretty decent one, by the way. With it, the possibilities just expanded a bit more. Now I can take pictures where I need to have a shutter speed of 1″ or more. Also, I now can take pictures of the moon!
My camera has helped me producing some really cool photos, if I may say so meself. Take a look at these (click on the thumbnails to enlarge):
Go to my Photo Blog and check more photos out!
Yeah, photography is a cool hobby; and although it can be expensive, is well worth it.
That’s it… that’s all I I wanted to share with you today.
Cheers.
